Voices from the Global Village: Attorney, Publisher and Entrepreneur L. Londell McMillan to speak to students at MCNY tonight

The MCNY Media Management MBA Program is proud to welcome internationally recognized attorney, publisher and advocate, L. Londell McMillan to speak with MBA students at the college tonight, March 6 at 6pm. The evening of conversations with our students will be facilitated by Prof. Kristie Velasco, Coordinator of the Media Management MBA Program, and Prof. Bernard Jackson, III.

Mr. McMillan, who specializes in the law of business and commercial transactions, litigation, communications, entertainment, intellectual property, and government affairs, is recognized as one of the most influential leaders of his generation. In addition to being a partner and co-head of the Media and Entertainment Global Industry Group at the international law firm of Dewey & LeBoeuf LLP, he is also an entrepreneur and Executive Publisher of the re-focused Source Magazine ( and the recently launched Jones Magazine ( (a high-end fashion, beauty and travel shopping guide for women).

Over the years, Mr. McMillan’s elite client list has included legendary artists, professional sports clients, authors, legislators, executives and businesses in the communications, media, entertainment, and real estate industries. He is also currently one of the co-owners and investors in the New Jersey Nets NBA basketball team and Brooklyn’s Atlantic Yards development project.

In 2008, Mr. McMillan was named as one of The National Law Journal’s 50 most Influential Minority Lawyers in America along with U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder, Vernon Jordan and Harvard Prof. Charles Ogeltree, among others; and in 2007 he was recognized as one of New York’s Super Lawyers, a distinguished honor for top lawyers in New York State. He was a recipient of the prestigious MBBA Haywood W. Burns, Lawyer of the Year Award in 2001 and featured on the cover of the Black Enterprise Magazine’s December 2003 issue. Mr. McMillan has also been honored alongside Kenneth Chenault, Stanley O’Neal and Richard Parsons among Crain’s 100 Most Powerful Minority Leaders.

It was just announced that Mr. McMillan will receive the Reginald F. Lewis Award, which honors African American entrepreneurs who succeeded internationally in business before the age of 50 on June 26 in East Hampton, NY.

Mr. McMillan was born in the Tompkins housing projects of Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn; he is a graduate of Brooklyn Technical high school, the School for Industrial and Labor Relations at Cornell University, and New York University School of Law.
