Meet the Faculty of the Undergraduate Business School

Pamela Abrams (BBA Audrey Cohen College; MPA Metropolitan College of New York, School of Public Affairs and Administration)

Pamela Abrams joined Metropolitan College of New York as an adjunct professor in 2003. Her business experience includes fourteen years at Community Health Action of Staten Island (formerly Staten Island AIDS Task Force) as Office Manager; Facility Manager and presently Associate Director of Human Resources.


Stephen G. Anderson (BS, Fordham University; MBA, Fordham University)

Professor Anderson has spent over 15 years working on electronic banking systems at EDS, Citibank and Chase Manhattan Bank. For the last 6 years, he has been the Vice President of Product Management at QBT Systems, a New York City based software company specializing in electronic banking and integration platforms for community based financial institutions. He joined the adjunct faculty at MCNY in 2003 and enjoys teaching courses in applied technology and the digital economy.


Solomon Appel (BA, Yeshiva College of Yeshiva University; MBA, New York University) ext. 2201

Solomon Appel spent ten years in higher education before joining the full-time faculty in January of 1989. He specializes in the Systems and Skills components of the School for Business’ offerings, and served as Assistant to the Associate Dean under Associate Deans Mandel, Small, Basir, Hurd and Tinnin. In this position he counseled students, scheduled courses and assigned faculty. He has had teaching affiliations with Baruch College/CUNY graduate school and undergraduate center, Brooklyn College (CUNY) and the College of New Rochelle. He currently serves on the Faculty Life Committee, the Academic Standards Committee, and the Compliance Committee.


William C. Auden (MS, State University of New York at Stony Brook; MPA, New York University; Ph.D. The Karol Adamiecki University of Economics)

Professor Auden has spent over 14 years working for banking industry. He has held different management positions in ING Bank, ABN-AMRO Bank, Vereinsbank. For the last four years his research interest concentrates on Demographic Theory of Business. Particularly, he is conducting research on how Top Management Team’s demographic composition influences firm performance. He joined the adjunct faculty at MCNY in 2004 and enjoys teaching courses in Economic Philosophy, Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, and Research in Business.


Mohammad Bajwa (MS UAF, MS Strayer, PhD Wales)

Mohammad Bajwa joined Metropolitan College of New York in 2005 as Adjunct Faculty in the College for Business. He brings with him over 25 years of teaching and administrative experience

He has held professor, research scientist and research director positions since 1980 and has authored over 50 publications in journals of international repute along with one book. He has vast professional international experience and has participated in several symposia and conferences in USA, UK, Canada, France, Germany, Philippines, Pakistan, India, Iran, Thailand, China, and Senegal. He holds three service excellence awards in teaching, research and institutional development from USAID, Potash and Phosphate Institute of Canada, and his Alma matter.

Currently, Dr. Bajwa is Medical Program Chair at Interboro Institute and teaches medical, technology, MIS, and biology courses at Wood Tobe-Coburn and University of Phoenix.


Lalita Brockington (BA Brooklyn College; MBA Long Island University; JD Hofstra Law School

Lalita Brockington joined Metropolitan College of New York in 2004 as an adjunct professor in the School of Business. In her twenty years of teaching experience in secondary and higher education, she has taught in the fields of education, business and law.

Her business experience includes advising small business owners and budding entrepreneurs with Workshop in Business Opportunities (WIBO) and assisting in the AARP Foundation Money Management Program. Her legal experience as an attorney includes working as a mediator and arbitrator for a number of organizations and agencies (Small Claims Court, BBB, NASD and others). She has also developed seminars for prospective law school students.


Kevin R. Brotz (BA, Rutgers University, Rutgers College; JD, Rutgers University, School of Law)

Professor Brotz is a member of the Bar of the State of New Jersey, and for 24 years successfully represented and advocated the legal interests of individuals, business entities, and the State of New Jersey in a wide variety of substantial civil and criminal litigation matters. In addition, Professor Brotz has extensive experience in risk analysis and strategy, insurance policy interpretation and coverage disputes, negotiation, arbitration and mediation, business development and business communications. He was also in government service as an Assistant Prosecutor.

Professor Brotz designed and taught an original in-house legal education program at his law firm; was an invited lecturer and classroom instructor for various legal topics; instructed and trained business clients' employees; and mentored other professionals.


Howard Bullard (BA San Diego State; MS Carnegie Mellon University; MA, MED Columbia University

Howard Bullard joined Metropolitan College of New York in 2004 and has held the title of adjunct instructor. In his 17 years of teaching experience, he has been a Peace Corps Volunteer in Africa, an English instructor in Brazil, and taught in the New York City public school system as a Peace Corps Fellows. Throughout this time he has maintained teaching affiliations with the College of New Rochelle, Borough of Manhattan Community College, and Touro College. Also, he travels extensively between Brazil and Europe participating in Peace Education and Human Rights seminars. His business experiences includes working for General Dynamics, real estate, and life insurance.


Dolore Bushati (BS, University of Tirana, Tirana, Albania; MSEd (Economic Education), University of Kansas; PhD, "ABD" program in Economic Education, University of Kansas).

Professor Bushati was formerly employed by Albanian-American Technical High School "Harry T. Fultz," where she became one of the founders of the business branch. She worked there as a professor and chair of the business department until 2001. She also worked at Tirana University as an Assistant Lecturer at the Faculty of Economics from 1998 till 2001. In 2003, she received a Master of Science in Education and she is currently continuing her Ph.D. program in Economic Education. She has also worked as a Deputy Director at AAWO (Albanian American Women Organization) a nonprofit organization which strives in achieving its goal of integrating Albanian women into the American society. She has also been an active participant in various international seminars and workshops around the world. She joined the adjunct faculty of MCNY in 2004.


Demetrius Carolina (AA, Camden Community College; BS, Stockton State College; M.Ed. in Educational Administration Leadership, Temple University; Doctoral Candidate in the School of Educational Administration, Walden University)

Through the years, Reverend Carolina has established himself as a stellar contributor to the educational arena, both in the classroom and in the area of administration. Currently he serves as the Pastor of the Tried Stone Baptist Church in the Bronx, President and C.E.O. of Carolina & Associates Inc. a business development company located in the South Jersey area. He has receives acclaim for his empowering workshop deal with the relevant issues of leadership, stewardship and financial independence. Prior to the development of his company, Reverend Carolina spent over fifteen years in higher educational administration as the Dean of Student Affairs in New York City, the Coordinator of Student Affairs in the city of Camden, New Jersey and as the student counselor for the Upward Bound Program. In New Jersey, Reverend Carolina was also a professor of World Civilizations, Human Services and Early Childhood Development and he is currently an adjunct professor at the Metropolitan College of New York.

Reverend Carolina has a deep concern for issues that relate to spiritual empowerment, economic development and urban justice. As a Baptist preacher and community representative, Reverend Carolina has a great reputation for being a hands-on leader.


Leneva Diamond (BS in Government, Public Administration, and a minor in Theology, Evangel University; JD, Northern Virginia Law School)

Ms. Diamond was formerly an aviation specialist in the United States Navy, during the Vietnam era. She later served as a law clerk, at the United States Department of Justice,Civil Rights Division, in Washington, DC from 1990 through 1994. Ms. Diamond, further served as an Executive Director of the Manhasset-Great Neck community assisting disenfranchised individuals obtain grants and scholarships. She has currently joined, the adjunct faculty staff, in the summer of 2004, and currently teaches at both, MCNY, and the New York City College of Technology.


Mine Aysen Doyran BA; Bosphorus University, Istanbul; Ph.D., University at Albany, State University of New York (SUNY), Nelson A. Rockefeller College of Public Affairs and Policy, Department of Political Science.

Mine Aysen Doyran teaches International Business and World Civilizations at Metropolitan College of New York in Manhattan and got her Ph.D. in Political Science from the Nelson A. Rockefeller College of Public Affairs and Policy, SUNY Albany. Professor Doyran's dissertation project, based on a fieldwork in the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, examines financial crises in recent U.S. history, including a chapter on the Long Term Capital Management (LTCM) bankruptcy. Prior to joining the School of Business in 2004, Professor Doyran taught as an adjunct professor for international relations and comparative politics at various New York universities and worked in a public policy capacity for the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) and Vera Institute's Youth Development Project, Esperanza, in Manhattan. As a research assistant to the Bureau of Program and Policy Analysis at DCJS, she coded qualitative data for the Domestic Violence Research Unit. Prior to moving to New York, Mine also worked as an editorial assistant for CNN during a UN Habitat Conference in Istanbul. Currently, Professor Doyran is active in the field presenting papers in numerous academic conferences.


William J. DuMond (BSS, Fordham College; Certified CPA, New York State; MBA., NYU Graduate School of Business) ext. 2219

Will DuMond joined the full-time staff of MCNY in September of 2002 after working as a financial and operational processional for 20+ years in various commercial banking and securities-related processing businesses. He spent over 20 years with HSBC-USA as Senior Vice President and Managing Director in their financial controls and operational processing businesses. He has also worked for PriceWaterhouseCoopers and Deloitte and Touche, primarily in their consulting areas. Paralleling his banking career, Professor DuMond has served as a member of the adjunct teaching staffs at Fordham, NYU and Pace Universities for over 20 years. A native New Yorker, he has been active in the Wall Street community and has published several articles and pamphlets on the reduction of risk in the settlement of securities. He was also Chairman of PTC - the GNMA Depository where he designed and installed products for DTC - the central book entry depository for all US equity securities.


Mitchell S. Janewicz (BS St. Francis College, MBA Wagner College)

Mitchell Janewicz joined the business department as an adjunct instructor in 2000. Since then he has instructed numerous business courses, not only at the main MCNY campus but also at the former campuses in the Bronx, Queens and Staten Island. Since 1987 Mr. Janewicz has instructed business courses at local colleges including LIM College, Katharine Gibbs School and the American Institute of Banking. As deputy director of business development for St. Nicholas Neighborhood Preservation Corp. he instructed a series of ten-week courses in small business management. His professional background includes more than twenty-five years of banking experience. He held management positions in banking operations, mortgage lending, and marketing with American Savings Bank, Dime Savings Bank, and the Williamsburg Savings Bank. He also held consulting positions with Bank America, Chase Bank and NatWest Bank.


Artie Khan (BS, New York Institute of Technology; MBA, New York Institute of Technology)

Professor Khan has spent over 25 years working on developing information systems for business and education. For the last 22 years, he has been working at the New York City Department of Education where he has been involved in the development and implementation of systems for business and student record management. He joined the adjunct faculty at MCNY in 2003 and enjoys teaching courses in business management and computer applications.


Rudolph F. Lalak (BS, Fordham University; Certified Management Accountant; Certified in Financial Management; MBA, Iona College; Advanced Graduate Certificate, New York University)

Professor Lalak's business career spans 28 years of which 26 years were spent within the CFO’s organization at JP Morgan Chase & Co. Professor Lalak was a senior officer of that company, specializing in. accounting and financial functions related to the corporation's tax posture. He also led several merger integration efforts, following each of 3 major mergers and was a member of the company's Diversity Council and of its Training Task Force. He joined the adjunct faculty of MCNY in 2000 and currently devotes his efforts to teaching, both at MCNY and as a member of the adjunct faculty of the Laboratory Institute of Merchandising.


Ralph A. Leal (BBA, St. John's University; MS, Columbia University; MS, Long Island University; Doctoral Studies in Economics, Fordham University (All requirements completed except dissertation.) ext. 2211

Ralph Leal's career has encompassed both business and higher education in the United States and overseas. He served as Vice President of HSBC Asset Management Americas, with responsibilities for both domestic and international investments' portfolios. He is a certified financial planner and holds New York State licenses in both insurance and investments. Dean Leal's academic career includes appointment as Associate Professor in the MBA program of the C.W. Post Center of Long Island University. He has also served on the faculties of St. John's University, where he was Director of the Latin American Area Studies Program and Adjunct Associate Professor of Economics and Finance at the State University Colleges at Farmingdale and Old Westbury, Nassau Community College and New York University.


Richard J. Monahan (BS, United States Merchant Marine Academy; MS, State University of New York; Doctor of Professional Studies, Pace University)

Professor Monahan's business career spans 25 years of diversified experience in transportation, energy and health care in the areas of marketing, finance and planning. During his career, he has traveled internationally to over 31 countries. He is presently a manager of administrative services for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority of New York. He joined the adjunct faculty of MCNY in 2003.


Emerson S. Nobbee (BA, Baruch College; MBA, St. John’s University)

Emerson Nobbee is a Certificate Public Accountant licensed in New York State and a member of American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. Professor Nobbee has taught at NYU Continuing Studies as well as the City University of New York. Professor Nobbee has worked in Public Accounting, Internal Audit and private accounting for the past 22 years. Professor Nobbee currently works as an AVP for Wells Fargo Century performing internal audits on various companies.


Glenda M.A. Perreira

(BBA, Baruch College; MBA, Long Island University; Ph.D candidate, Walden University)

Glenda Perreira is a systems analyst with Infocrossing/Wipro, New York, NY. She works in software development, training and implementation of a billing and payroll system designed for NY City’s Human Resources Administration’s multi-million dollar home care systems. Professor Perreira has also taught Management and Information Systems at various technical schools and colleges in New York City. Since working on her doctoral studies in Leadership and Organizational Change, she has teamed with other noted educators and professionals and is working with Family Renaissance, a not-for-profit organization that runs the rites of passage program for young men and women in Brooklyn, developing training and workshops to assist with providing necessary developmental skills and tools for young adults.


Matt Posner (BA, New College of Florida; MFA, University of Alabama; MA, Florida State University; St. John's University; English 7-12 certified public school teacher; practiced special educator)

Professor Posner is a published writer of fiction and nonfiction who joined the MCNY faculty in 2004. His teaching career also includes stints at Touro College, Miami International University of Art and Design, Florida International University, and University of Alabama. He is also an experienced high school teacher who currently works at New Utrecht High School in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn. Professor Posner is known for his eclectic and student-friendly teaching style. His interests include literature, politics, history, movies and photo retouching.


David J. Rosner (BA, Vassar College; MA, PhD, Brown University) ext. 3207

David Rosner serves in a joint capacity at MCNY; as both an assistant to the President Stephen Greenwald and as an instructor in the School for Business. In the President's office, David has co-authored an article on distance learning with President Greenwald and is currently working with the President on a paper applying Isaiah Berlin's pluralistic philosophy to contemporary political debates. He has also co-coordinated an Education and Media conference at MCNY (with Prof. Anne Lopes of the School of Human Services) and edited videotapes for the Urban Dialogues series. David has recently published a number of papers on the idea of philosophy as a therapeutic enterprise, and is also currently writing two articles on the thought of Martin Heidegger. In the School for Business, David teaches numerous classes in the Values and Ethics dimension.


Marga Ryersbach (BA University of West Florida; MA New School for Social Research)

Marga Ryersbach joined Metropolitan College of New York in 2005 as adjunct faculty. She is currently finishing a doctorate degree in diversity studies from the University of West Florida and has been teaching for 5 years. She has published several entries for The Encyclopedia of Social Theory (2004) as well as a chapter in Storytelling Sociology: Narrative as Social Inquiry (2005). Her dissertation, “Queer Praxis: A Study of Borderland Sexualities” examines how people who do not identify with mainstream heterosexuality, are able to build community and self outside of major metropolitan areas.


Michael Scagnoli (BS/BA, Tri-State University, Indiana; MBA, Metropolitan College of New York)

Michael Scagnoli has been an adjunct faculty member of Metropolitan College of New York since January of 2002. In addition to teaching, he also serves as Office and Production Manager for The New York Collegium, Inc., a performing arts organization specializing in baroque period music. Professor Scagnoli is also a weekly entertainment columnist and film critic for CNH1 Media. His most recent honors and awards include: Summa Cum Laude and Valedictorian at MCNY, Jannen Renaissance Scholar Award Recipient and Delta Mu Delta National Honor Society.


Julia R. Scalia (BS, Excelsior College; MS, Metropolitan College of New York Audrey Cohen School for Human Services)

Julia Scalia is a Vice President and Client Service Manager at JPMorgan Chase Investor Services. Since joining the corporation in 1969, she has held various administrative and managerial roles over 33 years, ranging from Investment Assistant in the Advisory Services Group to Senior Trust Administrator and Manager of the National Markets daily 401(k) service team. In addition to her numerous degrees, Professor Scalia graduated with honors from the American Institute of Banking and received the distinction of Certified Retirement Services Professional from The Institute of Certified Bankers. She is an adjunct professor in The School for Business, BBA degree program at MCNY, teaching courses such as: Computer Applications for Management, Fundamentals of Business Writing and Introduction to Values and Ethics. She is also an active member of the MCNY Alumni Association and currently serves as the elected Secretary of the Alumni Association's Executive Committee. In 1999 Professor Scalia received the Association's Distinguished Service Award.


Sheldon L. Shrenkel(BA, Hunter College; MBA, Adelphi University)

Sheldon L. Shrenkel has over thirty years experience in the finance industry. As Director of Operations, and District manager for Chrysler Capital Corporation his responsibilities included managing the NY District, marketing, credit and collections, managing an audit staff, overseeing loan workouts, management of loan portfolios, and mergers and acquisitions of complex problem accounts. Currently, he is a consultant to small and middle market companies. Also, he consults and provides services to banks, finance companies, turnaround firms, and law firms. He has been a guest lecturer, numerous times, at NYU for the course, Starting Your own Business. He has lectured at several major banks on the topics of alternative financing, motivation, and marketing.


Dina C. Tate (BA, University of Illinois at Chicago; MS, Polytechnic University;)

Professor Tate has worked at such websites as ESSENCE by Mail.com (EBM) and BlackPlanet.com. During her tenure at EBM she increases website sales by 190% in one year. She has been profiled in The Network Journal and MIN's New Media Report. She also acted as consultant to several small business companies such as sabonnyc.com and ashantiorigins.com. Ms. Tate joined the MCNY faculty in 2003


George Tinnin (BA & MBA, Adelphi University) ext. 2205

George Tinnin joined Metropolitan College of New York in 1989 and held the title of Acting Associate Dean of the School for Business from 1995 to 1996. In his 20 years of teaching experience in higher education and academic administration, he participated in the College's Schools Project as a school trainer of secondary schools in Florida and Tennessee for schools who have adopted the college's model of Purpose Centered Education. He developed the initial department for student services and the prerequisite program for freshmen in the School for Business. Throughout this time he has had teaching affiliations with Bloomfield College, Brooklyn College, The Cooper Union's school of engineering and the College of New Rochelle. His business experience includes many years of work and managing engagements with fortune 500 corporations (ITT, Coca-Cola USA, Seagram's, General Foods, Phillip Morris, Schering Plough, AIG and others) in management consulting, executive search, organizational development and training and development.


Manolin Tirado (BA, History-Sociology, Columbia University; MA, Political Science, Brooklyn College, City University of New York)

Manolin "Manny" Tirado has over twenty years of public administration experience with several city and state agencies. His areas of specialty include economic development, transportation planning and electoral politics. Professor Tirado has also worked as a political consultant for several city and state elected officials including the Bronx Borough President, Adolfo Carrion. Currently, Professor Tirado is a Transportation Planner for MTA New York City Transit and serves as Treasurer of the Northern Manhattan Economic Development Corp.

Professor Tirado joined the School of Business faculty in January 2002 and has taught courses in American Government and Political Philosophy. He is also an adjunct professor of political science at Brooklyn College since 1997.


Kristie Velasco (BA, Boston College; JD, New York Law School)

Ms. Velasco has been an attorney for 15 years, running her own law office since 1997. She has extensive experience representing clients in entertainment law, civil rights and government contracting. Her entertainment clients cover a myriad of fields including music, dance, film, television and radio, with a specialty in Latino genres. In addition to her legal duties, she is currently managing artists in the music industry, is an active member of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences and a charter member of the Latino Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences. Beyond her adjunct status with MCNY, she is also a member of the faculties of CUNY's Medgar Evers College and Georgian Court University.

Building on her extensive activism in NYC's Latino and African American communities, before opening her law practice, Ms. Velasco had a long history of government experience, serving as Executive Assistant/Deputy Chief of Staff to the Deputy Mayor for Education and Human Services in the Giuliani Administration. She has also served as Interim Chief of Staff to Congressman Major R. Owens, and remains actively involved in a number of political campaigns.


Mark Wald (BS, SUNY Buffalo; MS, University of Arizona; JD, California Western School of Law)

Since the founding of his athletic brand with his partner in 1993, Mark Wald has been the Executive Vice President and General Counsel to Game Over, Inc. (www.gameovernyc.com). With his assistance the brand has grown from a regional to national concern, from an athletic wear company to a Multimedia corporation that controls various trademarks in numerous international categories. Partnerships have been built to include such important companies as McDonald's, the Madison Square Garden Cable Network, and the New York Knicks. Current projects includes the production and taping of a basketball reality show to air in the Fall and Winter of 2005-2006 on MSG. Among his many duties he also oversees the raising of venture capital for the growing corporation; marketing of all of its branded items; working with its Licensing company on the development of the brand as well as licensing opportunities in the USA and abroad. Prior to the creation of his company, he has been a member of the Sports Lawyers Association, interned with the general counsel of the (then) Los Angeles Raiders, and a college basketball coach at Pima College, in Tucson, Arizona.


Garfield R. Willis Esq. (BBA, Baruch College-CUNY; JD, Pace University School of Law)

Professor Willis is currently a staff attorney at the New York City Commission on Human Rights where he prosecutes claims of discrimination in the context of employment housing and public accommodation. Recently, he has successfully prosecuted the Commission's first transgender case. Prior to law school he attained the series 7 license and worked in the banking and securities industry. He joined the adjunct faculty at MCNY in 2004 and teaches courses in business ethics.


Richard Zalman (BA, Queens College, C.U.N.Y.; Certified Compensation Professional, World-At-Work Institute; Senior Professional in Human Resources, Society for Human Resource Management Institute; M.A.T., Northwestern University; MS, Sloan School of Management, Massachusetts Institute of Technology; PhD, Northwestern University)

Richard Zalman is involved in the NYC Department of Education's initiative to establish small learning communities in Career and Technical Education. He is an expert in adult literacy education (having founded the first Adult Reading Academy for the US Office of Education thirty years ago) and in modern Human Resource Management. In 1988 he was named an Alfred P. Sloan Fellow by MIT.
