Internships

Information for Students

At MCNY you will take what you learn in the classroom and actually apply it in a professional setting. Supervised field experience provides an opportunity for the student to evaluate assumptions, principles, and concepts taught in the classroom. Additionally, it provides learning that is brought back into the classroom, thereby enriching the academic experience.

  • Undergraduate Human Services students starting in purpose two (second semester) through purpose eight are required to complete an internship of at least 14 hours a week for 14 weeks per semester. Students can use their worksites to complete the internship requirements. All internships must be approved by your CA professor.

  • Undergraduate Bachelor of Arts in American Urban Studies students are required to complete an internship of seven hours a week for 14 weeks each semester beginning in Purpose 3. In some cases, students may utilize their place of employment to complete their internship requirements. All internships must be approved by your CA professor.

  • MPA students should have a field supervisor before they begin school, who will sign the letter of agreement and the field supervisor’s information sheet. These forms should be included in the application packet that the potential student submits for admission to the college.

  • Business students are not required to have internships for course credit, but can pursue internships on their own.

MCNY's curriculum fully integrates the classroom and the workplace, so, for students who are not employed, or who do not want to use their current worksite for internship purposes, the College's Office of Career Services will provide contact to a challenging internship site. Students will have the opportunity to participate in different internship opportunities over the course of their studies.
