For four years, he was a very proactive president of the CUNY Career Services Association, helping to introduce career-related administrative software to CUNY-wide campus offices. Ron played important and innovative roles in the re-development of career services offices at Medgar Evers College, CUNY-COPE (College Opportunity to Prepare for Employment) program, and for over eight years at Borough of Manhattan Community College. In addition, Ron has taught the career development component at Brooklyn Educational Opportunity Center, and a Co-operative Education class at LaGuardia Community College. He has participated as a panelist on several local and regional professional conferences, and is an often requested to address both campus and community organizations focusing on the productive and strategic relationships between career education, academic, personal development, and employment readiness. Ron is also an active member of the Abyssinian Baptist Church in Harlem Exodus Outreach Support Initiative where he volunteers by assisting men recently released from incarceration, by providing career education and employment readiness supportive services. Angel Ortiz, Coordinator of Career Services Angel Ortiz has a strong background in career development services. His experience spans over 20 years of working within a variety of City University Colleges of New York. Mr. Ortiz has worked in diverse capacities within the student development and services area. In addition, he has worked as an adjunct lecturer teaching courses such as advanced career planning, freshman orientation, and public administration courses. Mr. Ortiz’s main goal and passion is to ensure that students are prepared for the world of work and, have developed the necessary job hunting tools and strategies to help them bridge that world. Similarly, he helps and facilitates career planning for students by helping them to conduct self-assessment activities, skills identification, values clarification, career and educational goal setting, and effective job searching strategies and techniques. Most recently, Mr. Ortiz worked at LaGuardia Community College in the capacity of Academic Advisor and Coordinator for the Allied Health/Math and Science Academy. At LaGuardia, he successfully coordinated and implemented a variety of career advising activities aimed at retention and academic development. Mr. Ortiz graduated from Fordham University with a Master of Science degree in Education and Human Resources Development. His undergraduate work was at Lehman College where he obtained a Bachelors’ degree in Education and History and thus began his young career as a Teacher with the NYC Board of Education. |
