Computer Learning Center

The Computer Learning Center provides computer resources for the students and faculty of MCNY. The Center has workstations that can be used by the individual student or groups in a classroom setting. Students can complete their classroom assignments at each center as well as obtain instructions in computer literacy. Software applications include Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access. Other software applications may be available as well, please ask the staff person on duty.

Hours of Operation and Location

Hours of Operation of the Learning Center generally follow those of the Libraries. Check with the Learning Center staff for specific times to ensure availability.

Computer Learning Center Usage Policies

MCNY students, alumni, faculty and staff are allowed to use the computers in the Center to do research, check MCNY email for school updates and complete assignments. Please note:

  • These facilities are exclusively for students, alumni, faculty and staff. Each time you arrive at the Center, you will be asked to present your MCNY I.D. Card. You will not be allowed access without your MCNY I.D.
  • Upon signing in, you will be able to use the computer for 2 consecutive hours.
  • If the Computer Learning Center is not busy, you may ask for an additional 2 hours.
  • Each student must have a 3.5 inch diskette on which to save their work. If a student does not have a diskette, one can be purchased in the Center. Diskettes must be handled carefully and kept clean in order to avoid losing data.
  • Computer Learning Center staff are not responsible for any coursework left on workstations. Files left on workstations are subject to deletion.
  • Computers are not to be left unattended. Students MUST take their diskettes and personal belongings with them whenever they leave the Center.
  • Staff members of the Computer Learning Center are not responsible for lost or stolen articles.
  • Students are not permitted to bring FOOD OR DRINK OF ANY KIND into the Center.
  • There is ABSOLUTELY NO CELL PHONE USAGE PERMITTED.
  • SMOKING and RADIO PLAYING are not allowed in the Center.
  • Students are not allowed to add any devices, or download anything onto the workstations. Any student violating this policy will be escorted out by security and disciplinary action may be taken.
  • The use of offensive language or behavior is not acceptable. In addition, the noise level in the Center should be kept to a Library atmosphere.
  • Children are not allowed in the Computer Learning Center.

There is always a staff person on duty in the Computer Learning Center. The staff of the Computer Learning Center provides assistance on the basic use of software programs, ensures the proper use of Computer Learning Center equipment, and monitors adherence to the rules of the Center. In the event that you have questions, problems or difficulties retrieving information while using a computer in the Computer Learning Center, or are having problems with software or your diskette, please speak with a staff member.

Staff members are not able to assist the student with grammar or paper content. Students who are in need of this type of assistance should make an appointment with Student Services or the Mentoring Program (Purpose 1-4 Students Only).

Internet Usage

Internet access is provided to allow students to obtain research and educational material for their studies and papers. The downloading of non-educational material and accessing inappropriate or sexually explicit material are strictly forbidden. Students who do so are at risk of losing their privileges to use the Computer Learning Center.

MCNY Faculty Email


Instructions on how to access your Metropolitan College of New York email account from outside the college:
  1. Obtain your Internet connection (either via dial-up, cable or DSL line) so that you can access the Internet.
  2. Open your browser
    • Internet Explorer 6, Mozilla Firefox or Netscape 7 recommended.
    • Netscape 5 and earlier are not recommended.
  3. Go to the Address Bar on the top of the page and clear it out.
  4. Once clear, type mail.metropolitan.edu in the address bar (or click here).
  5. Type your USERNAME into the bar where it prompts you to LOG ON.
  6. You will then be prompted to retype your username and PASSWORD in a pop-up window.
  7. Your MCNY email account is now open.
