Kristie Velasco, Program Coordinator of the Media Management MBA Program in the MCNY School for Business said, “This was our first poster competition, and we were excited to receive a number of excellent submissions.  It was close, but this image ultimately was the one our Media Management MBA students voted to represent the MCNY 4^th Annual Short Film Festival.  With the theme “Reflections of a Dream,” the festival is a two-day celebration of both the business and creative aspects of the film industry that continues to grow and expand into divergent media fields.  “We usually dream of what we see and what we know. Dreams are abstracts of our imaginations,” said Mr. Catic of his submission.  “My work represents this kind of dream — the dreams that are inward and outward.”

New sponsors have also joined corporate and community sponsors from past years in support of the students in their organizing efforts.  JAMbox Entertainment was founded by Lee Evans, whose many accomplishments include work with singers Marc Anthony, Cyndi Lauper, Harry Belafonte, The Force M.D.s, Brass Construction, Rainy Davis, Afrikaa Bambaataa and a long list of dance Hip Hop and Latin freestyle favorites from the ‘80’s and early 90’s including artists Cyre, and The Cover Girls.  Working with MCNY as a mentor and site supervisor for student internships at his recording studios, Mr. Evans said, “JAMBOX Entertainment is proud to be a sponsor of the MCNY 4th Annual Film Festival! We have always been a supporter of up and coming artists in the field pursuing their dreams. The MCNY Short Film Festival provides a much-needed platform for aspiring filmmakers to show their work, build their network, and meet professionals in their field. What a great opportunity!”

Opened in June 2005 in the historic Waverly Theater, The IFC Center, the ultimate entertainment space for New Yorkers seeking out the best in independent film, has joined the number of community and corporate sponsors of the festival and has joined Jambox Entertainment in underwriting some of the prizes for the festival.   The festival, which grew out a classroom project, has developed into a platform for burgeoning filmmakers, and provides real time project management experience for the school’s media management MBA students.

Integral in the MCNY Purpose Centered Education teaching model is our Constructive Action, where in the MBA Programs, students conduct extensive business research, plan and begin implementing new media ventures in a myriad of fields.  As in past years, the Festival is proud to welcome Throwbax and Grave Shift Studios to join returning Soi66 on the list of student companies supporting the Festival as sponsors as well.

MCNY 4^th Annual Media Management Short Film Festival is scheduled for 6-9pm on April 4 and 5 in the school’s 11^th Floor Conference Center at 431 Canal Street, New York, NY, and will include a Keynote address by film and television executive Peter Anthony Andrews on Thursday, April 4 followed by the screening of the short film finalists on Friday April 5. The event is free and open to the public.

The Metropolitan College of New York School for Business Media Management MBA Program is accepting submissions for our First MCNY Short Film Festival Poster Student Competition. Submissions are only $5! The deadline for all submissions is March 15, 2013.

Metropolitan College of New York School for Business Media Management MBA Program will be presenting the MCNY 4th Annual Short Film Festival April 4 – 5, 2013, organized, developed and produced by its Media Management MBA students to celebrate short films, filmmakers and the business of film.  This year’s theme is “Reflections of a Dream.”  For the First year, the Festival is putting a call out to student artists and graphic designers for our annual festival poster artwork. Students, Student Artists and Student Designers are encouraged to submit work for the Film Festival Poster Competition by March 15, 2013.

Late submissions will NOT be accepted.

Guidelines: The competition is open to all student artists and graphic designers; you must have an .edu email address to enter a submission. All submissions must be received by the deadline of close of business on March 15, 2013. There is no limit to the number of submissions entered but each submission entry requires a $5 entry fee to defray the cost of administration. Only Money Orders will be accepted.  Entries will only be accepted from individuals who are currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate school. No additional prize money will be awarded.

We are looking for images that celebrate Short Film, Filmmakers and the business of film in an interesting, relevant and visually innovative way that avoids stereotypes and clichés. This year’s theme for our Film Festival is “Reflections of a Dream”.  Entries will be judged using the following criteria:

*Overall impact of the display for eye-catching appeal, visual attractiveness, and its ability to draw the viewer in;

*Clarity of the message’s demonstration of Short Film/film festival;

*Appropriateness of the graphics for the festival;

*Creativity;

Entries must be submitted as both a mounted image on at least an 8 1/2″ w x 11″ hard board as well as a high-resolution jpeg file

In the artwork, you must include “MCNY 4^th Annual Short Film Festival, April 4-5, 2013” “School for Business Media Management MBA Program” and the unaltered MCNY logos (which will be provided upon successful registration by emailing MediaManagement@mcny.edu) and the festival theme “Reflections of a Dream.”  Entries may be in the form of photography, painting, graphic art, and illustration, in color or black and white. The design must be simultaneously provided in a high resolution jpeg file so that it is easy to translate into a range of online and print materials such as 24×36 posters, newsprint ads, t-shirts, film, street banners, bus advertisements, etc.

Place your name, address, email and phone number on the back of each submission. All submissions will be judged based on content, appeal and marketability. The decisions of the judges will be final. MCNY does not take on liability for submissions. Please provide a self-addressed envelope (with whatever packing protection you desire be utilized to return the submission to you safely, for which you assume all responsibility) with appropriate postage and insurance if you would like your design(s) to be returned to you

All submissions become the shared property of the artist and MCNY. By submitting an entry, the entrant agrees that MCNY has permission to use the image for purposes including, but not limited to:  slides, brochures, advertisements, display, t-shirts, souvenir programs, festival badges & tickets, websites, postcards, etc.

Copyrighted material: Material that is not original or the property of the artist is prohibited.

If your poster design is selected, you will win USD$250 and your design will contribute the look of the Festival by appearing on Festival posters, postcards, program, invitations, and much more, providing significant and immeasurable exposure to your artwork/design. Finalists will be announced by March 22, and the winning poster will be revealed by the end of that month (March 29, 2013) in New York, NY. All posters that advance to the final round will be exhibited during the 2013 MCNY 4^th Annual Short Film Festival, April 4-5, 2013.
