A Message From the Dean

It gives me a great pleasure to welcome you to the Audrey Cohen School for Human Services and Education.

Your decision to pursue a career in the areas of Human Services, Urban Studies and/or Education brings you closer to creating an educational foundation that will enable you to make a difference in your community, the city of New York, and perhaps around the globe.

Our communities are forever undergoing changes based on social, economic, political and cultural issues. Although change is inevitable in our lives, these issues remain constant in all decision making processes within all systems and at all levels of society. Choosing a degree in human services, urban studies and/or education sets you at the forefront of career opportunities that will allow you to be part of the decision making process.

The Audrey Cohen School for Human Services and Education offers both undergraduate and graduate educational programs with a reputation for innovation and excellence. The new Bachelor of Arts in American Urban Studies program is designed to provide a foundation in humanities, economics, sociology, math and natural science. Focused initiatives will empower you as a student, to embrace academic knowledge, skills, and methods of investigation necessary to excel in many fields. You will also learn to transfer all this knowledge and skills and transform any situation into a positive experience.

Supervised fieldwork, independent learning, and civic involvement complement the content of the curricula. A major component to your academic experience will involve engagement in an experiential learning practicum. Having the opportunity to engage in your field of study, while simultaneously working in the classroom, will enable you to gain a holistic spectrum of your subject area. You will grow personally and professionally as you build interpersonal relationships, assume leadership positions, and promote positive change. Your education will enable you to make a contribution, whether large or small. This is an opportunity to be part of the decision making process that enables us to enjoy the future and live in a better society
