This course introduces students to nonprofit management, beginning with the history of philanthropy and the emergence of the nonprofit sector. Classical organizational theory and principles as well as current management and supervision practices are applied to the structure, resources and mission of the nonprofit organization. Special attention is focused on collaborative strategic planning. The instructor will teach students to develop an understanding of the evolution and development of individual nonprofit organizations and the nonprofit sector, and how they fit into U.S. political culture and the U.S. constitutional system.
