Steven K. Lenhart
August 28, 1952 – April 16, 2012
Dear Students, Alumni and Friends of the MCNY Community:
It is with great sadness that we report the passing of Steven Lenhart, Dean of Enrollment Services and Director of Marketing. Dean Lenhart passed on Monday, April 16th after having suffered a serious heart attack on April 11th.
For 25 years, Dean Lenhart served the institution, the students, faculty and community with great dedication. With deep passion, commitment and pride, he was determined to improve the intellectual landscape of this diverse city by enhancing the lives of MCNY students. Dean Lenhart’s institutional memory was second to none and an invaluable asset to the College. He worked with and admired our founder Audrey Cohen. He was a passionate advocate for our mission. He was a mentor to many individual students through their studies here and into life beyond the college – his office was an open congregation of students and alumni. All the while, he tirelessly promoted an admissions effort that combined integrity with effectiveness. He was a major architect of the present success of MCNY.
Steve joined the College in October 1987 after serving four years as Assistant and Associate Director of Admissions at Fordham University. During twenty-five years of dedicated service Dean Lenhart played an important leadership role as Director of Admissions, Marketing and Recruitment; Director of Graduate Admissions; Director of Marketing Communication; and Dean of Enrollment Services.
On a personal note, from the moment I arrived at the College in May 2008, Steve was supportive in innumerable ways. He pitched in with optimism and confidence to move the College forward at a time of uncertainty. I can never adequately repay my debt for his personal support, but I can speak for all of us in recognizing his tremendous contributions to MCNY and the deep affection we felt for him personally. His spirit was contagious.
On behalf of the MCNY Family, to his partner Tom Carroll and the Lenhart Family, we extend our deepest sympathy.
In the coming weeks we will find appropriate ways to celebrate his life.
