The subway‐sprawling yet claustrophobic, over‐bright yet full of shadows, a place urban dwellers can’t do without yet hurry to leave. The Underground Series explores the rushed, off balance feeling evoked by descending into a subterranean landscape that is both mundane and vaguely menacing. Using non‐traditional watercolor techniques, artist Joan Iaconetti simplifies complex station architecture into ragged shapes of light and dark, illuminated by the fractured light of speeding trains.
