MCNY and Our Students
MCNY is a unique institution of higher education. Its mission explicitly aims to advance social justice. U.S. News ranks MCNY as one of the top colleges with the highest percentages of adult students in the nation. Most of our students (85%) come from Black and Latinx communities, and a similar percentage are economically disadvantaged. Students come to MCNY to improve their lives and the lives of their families, often after transferring from larger colleges and universities that do not provide the personal attention that is needed for academic success. Part of this attention is providing ways to ensure student success. This includes student services, academic support and most often financial support like scholarships and help with food and housing insecurity. Many of these needs have doubled over this past year due to the pandemic. Our focus on educating adults has been consistent since our founding in 1964. MCNY’s unique curriculum, Purpose-Centered Education, harnesses the knowledge and maturity of adult students and hones their skills as professionals who can add value and lead positive change.
Did the 2020-21 quarantine get the best of us? No more binge-watching TV on the couch and ordering in! It’s time to get moving! Don’t sit…commit to getting FIT!
Join the first “MCNY Power of Purpose Fitness Challenge” (MCNY POP Challenge) now through September 25, 2021. Commit and get fit while supporting our students with the tools they need for their educational and sometimes, personal success. This challenge is about achieving a goal of your own while helping MCNY students make their goals. The money raised will fund scholarships, academic support services, help address food and shelter insecurity, emergency issues and general support needed to help students earn their degrees.
How does it work?
The MCNY Community of students, alumni, friends, staff, faculty and family can keep it moving any way that they see FIT. Excercise with a workout, walk, run, swim…make it your choice to get fit while helping MCNY students achieve their goals. When you use the link below, choose “Join This Event” to start a fundraiser, join a team or create your own team.
Over the next three months, MCNY will be posting updates via social media, newsletter emails and on this webpage. You can keep us updated when you post with #myMCNY Fit.
