Message from the President

You have persevered through one of the most challenging years in our nation’s history, and you have achieved your academic goal! Every member of the MCNY community — trustees, faculty, and staff — salutes your important achievements. We recognize the hard work and sacrifices you made to make this dream a reality. And we are deeply proud that you chose to attend MCNY.

As our newest alumni, you have joined a powerful family of accomplished people who continue to support each other’s professional advancement long after graduation. We encourage you to stay connected to your classmates and to the faculty and staff who have supported you. Your success will continue to be a source of inspiration and renewal for all of us.

Graduate, this is your time to make history, and to use the power of Purpose-Centered Education to bring constructive change to our communities. More than ever before, our communities need your vision, your passion, and your talents. We know that you will continue to achieve great things, and that you will make the world a better place. We will be rooting for you every step of the way.

Thank you for the inspiration that you bring to me, to the MCNY community. Go out and be the change you want to see in the world!

Commencement Guide for Graduating Students

Congratulations! Metropolitan College of New York will be honoring students who satisfactorily completed degree requirements for the semesters ending in August 2020, December 2020, and April 2021 during a Commencement Ceremony on Saturday, June 12, 2021. The Commencement Ceremony provides an opportunity for the College to pay special tribute to our graduates for the outstanding efforts they have shown in earning their degrees, and an opportunity for the college to share the excitement and importance of academic accomplishments with faculty, fellow graduates, families, and friends. We hope you will join us in the celebration of academic achievement at this prestigious virtual event.

Please review each of the items below as there is helpful and important information for you as an MCNY graduate. Due to the government and safety restrictions that we must follow, this year’s celebration will be virtual.

To be certified for graduation, you must complete an application for graduation, available at the Registrar’s Office and on the MCNY website at: https://www.mcny.edu/pdfs/registrar/REGAppforGrad.pdf. You must file the application prior to the published deadlines listed at the top of the application for the semester of intended graduation. If you do not complete the application form you will NOT be listed on the commencement program. After an application is filed, academic records are checked and eligibility for graduation is confirmed.

Diplomas will be available for pick up in 4 to 8 weeks. If you live in New York City, you will be notified when you can pick up your diploma. If you live outside of New York City, your degree will be shipped to you by UPS.

Due to COVID safety protocols and limited access to the campus, graduates may be required to schedule appointments to pick up their diplomas. The Registrar’s office will provide additional information when diplomas are available for pick up. Please be sure that your address and contact information on file are up to date.

You may order your official transcript at any time by sending an email to Bpayne@mcny.edu or by going to: https://tsorder.studentclearinghouse.org/school/ficecode/00976900
Diplomas and official transcripts will not be issued to any degree candidate who has any outstanding financial obligations to the College.

If you need a letter stating that you graduated attached is the Letter Request Form. Please EMAIL Lorna Alexander (lalexander@mcny.edu) to request a Letter Request form and send it back to Ms. Alexander.

Associate and Baccalaureate degree graduates become eligible for honors designations, based on their cumulative grade point average, as follows:
• Cum Laude: 3.65 GPA (blue stole)
• Magna Cum Laude: 3.75 GPA (white stole)
• Summa Cum Laude: 3.95 GPA (gold stole)
Associate and Baccalaureate degree graduates with these designations will be given a stole. Due to COVID-19, stoles will be mailed to the address on file.

If you wish to purchase a cap and gown for commemorative purposes, you can do so through Herff –Jones, MCNY’s official provider for academic regalia. You can order online at www.herffjones.com/college/graduation. Commemorative tassels, announcements, and other memorabilia are also available through Herff-Jones.
Caps and gowns will NOT be available for pick-up or purchase at either MCNY campus this year. The online site will be available February 1, 2021 through May 5th with reduced fees for standard shipping of $7.95. Herff Jones will be offering expedited shipping with a cost of $15.95 from May 5th through May 17th, with a delivery of all packages by June 7th.

Diploma Plaques can be ordered online at: www.fondmemoriesgraphics.com/diploma-plaques.php.

Jostens, is MCNY’s official provider for class rings. You can purchase a class ring online at www.jostens.com. This year Herff Jones is also available for class rings.

Thornton Studios is the company that takes graduate photographs.
You can take graduation photos at Thornton Studios by scheduling an appointment online at www.thorntonstudio.com. Go to Schedule APPT and use the code: studio. The studio is open for portraits Monday through Saturday 9:15 am – 4:45 pm each day.

For questions about graduation portraits, please contact Thornton Studios directly at sales@thorntonstudio.com or 212-647-1758.

Graduates who take their photos will be given a complimentary portrait for the virtual commencement.
The portrait sitting fee is $10.00.

At 12:00 pm on June 12th, MCNY’s Virtual Commencement will begin.

The best part?  Grads will be able to customize their name, photo and quote via a company we’re using called FullMeasure. You should have received this information via email.

Essentially, the procession will work similarly to a slideshow, giving each grad their own slide to personalize with a photo and a quote/message.

Grads are not required to participate if they’re feeling shy. Their name will still be announced along with the degree conferred and any Latin Honors earned and an MCNY image will appear instead.

FullMeasure reached out to graduates via text message in May with all the details to submit a personal photo and quote. Be sure to look for it!

Remember – your page will be publicly available, so put your best foot forward!

As we get closer to Commencement Day, our marketing team will be sharing our graduates’ success stories on our social media. If you would like to be considered, please send an email with your “#myMCNYstory” to alumni@mcny.edu.

We would love to hear why you came to MCNY, your favorite things about the College, and perhaps the names of the professors and staff who truly had your back and helped you succeed.

Tell us a little about yourself, too. Here are some thought starters…

  • Are you the first person in your family to go to college?
  • Is someone else in your family an MCNY or Audrey Cohen College graduate?
  • Did you transfer to MCNY and did you find what you were looking for?
  • Are you a readmit?…Did you come back to complete your degree after taking off for a while?
