You have persevered through one of the most challenging years in our nation’s history, and you have achieved your academic goal! Every member of the MCNY community — trustees, faculty, and staff — salutes your important achievements. We recognize the hard work and sacrifices you made to make this dream a reality. And we are deeply proud that you chose to attend MCNY.

Commencement Guide for Graduating Students

Congratulations! Metropolitan College of New York will be honoring students who satisfactorily completed degree requirements for the semesters ending in August 2020, December 2020, and April 2021 during a Commencement Ceremony on Saturday, June 12, 2021. The Commencement Ceremony provides an opportunity for the College to pay special tribute to our graduates for the outstanding efforts they have shown in earning their degrees, and an opportunity for the college to share the excitement and importance of academic accomplishments with faculty, fellow graduates, families, and friends. We hope you will join us in the celebration of academic achievement at this prestigious virtual event.

Please review each of the items below as there is helpful and important information for you as an MCNY graduate. Due to the government and safety restrictions that we must follow, this year’s celebration will be virtual.

APPLICATION FOR GRADUATION
To be certified for graduation, you must complete an application for graduation, available at the Registrar’s Office and on the MCNY website at: https://www.mcny.edu/pdfs/registrar/REGAppforGrad.pdf. You must file the application prior to the published deadlines listed at the top of the application for the semester of intended graduation. If you do not complete the application form you will NOT be listed on the commencement program. After an application is filed, academic records are checked and eligibility for graduation is confirmed.

DIPLOMAS
Diplomas will be available for pick up in 4 to 8 weeks. If you live in New York City, you will be notified when you can pick up your diploma. If you live outside of New York City, your degree will be shipped to you by UPS.

Due to COVID safety protocols and limited access to the campus, graduates may be required to schedule appointments to pick up their diplomas. The Registrar’s office will provide additional information when diplomas are available for pick up. Please be sure that your address and contact information on file are up to date.

For questions about graduation portraits, please contact Thornton Studios directly at sales@thorntonstudio.com or 212-647-1758.

Graduates who take their photos will be given a complimentary portrait for the virtual commencement.
The portrait sitting fee is $10.00.

VIRTUAL PROCESSION

At 12:00 pm on June 12th, MCNY’s Virtual Commencement will begin.

The best part?  Grads will be able to customize their name, photo and quote via a company we’re using called FullMeasure. You should have received this information via email.

Essentially, the procession will work similarly to a slideshow, giving each grad their own slide to personalize with a photo and a quote/message.

Grads are not required to participate if they’re feeling shy. Their name will still be announced along with the degree conferred and any Latin Honors earned and an MCNY image will appear instead.

FullMeasure reached out to graduates via text message in May with all the details to submit a personal photo and quote. Be sure to look for it!

Remember – your page will be publicly available, so put your best foot forward!

SHARE YOUR STORY

As we get closer to Commencement Day, our marketing team will be sharing our graduates’ success stories on our social media. If you would like to be considered, please send an email with your “#myMCNYstory” to alumni@mcny.edu.

We would love to hear why you came to MCNY, your favorite things about the College, and perhaps the names of the professors and staff who truly had your back and helped you succeed.

Tell us a little about yourself, too. Here are some thought starters…

  • Are you the first person in your family to go to college?
  • Is someone else in your family an MCNY or Audrey Cohen College graduate?
  • Did you transfer to MCNY and did you find what you were looking for?
  • Are you a readmit?…Did you come back to complete your degree after taking off for a while?
