Dear Metropolitan College of New York Community,

We are proud to share that President Charles J. Gibbs, Ed.D., has been named a 2026 inductee into the National Black College Alumni Hall of Fame in the category of Education.
President Gibbs’ Profile on the Black College Hall of Fame Foundation Website.

President Gibbs was nominated for this national honor by his alma mater, Howard University, where he earned three degrees: a B.B.A. in Marketing, an M.Ed. in Education Administration and Policy, and an Ed.D. He will be formally inducted during the National Black College Alumni Hall of Fame Weekend in Atlanta, with the induction ceremony taking place on October 3, 2026.

President Gibbs joins a distinguished legacy of Hall of Fame inductees that includes Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Justice Thurgood Marshall, Oprah Winfrey, Ambassador Andrew Young, and NASA mathematician Katherine Johnson, among hundreds of accomplished HBCU alumni.

The 2026 class of 13 inductees includes President Gibbs; legendary gospel artist Shirley Caesar; former NBA player Derrick Allen Mahorn; Dr. Sylvia Trent-Adams, former Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for Health; Dr. Harry L. Williams, President and CEO of the Thurgood Marshall College Fund; Dr. Cheryl McKissack Daniel, President and CEO of McKissack & McKissack; and other distinguished leaders in education, business, government, science, medicine, the arts, athletics, faith, and community service.

For President Gibbs, this recognition carries special meaning. To be nominated by Howard University, the institution that helped shape his path as a scholar-athlete, educator, and higher education leader, and now to represent Howard among the Hall of Fame’s 2026 inductees is an extraordinary honor.

Please join the MCNY community in congratulating President Gibbs on this well-deserved recognition.
