The Associate of Arts in Human Services program at Metropolitan College of New York is a degree that prepares students for entry-level roles in the helping professions. In modern society, it’s easy for many disadvantaged members of the community to fall through the cracks. Social workers and caseworkers do the work necessary to ensure that the most vulnerable people have access to the assistance they need. This program teaches students how to coordinate supporting activities, processes, and outcomes within community settings or organizations.
Graduates typically go on to a variety of careers in counseling, child welfare, social work, education, fundraising, public service, foster care and eldercare. They also find meaningful careers in government, healthcare, health administration, ministry and human resources and probation.
This degree is also rooted in the founding of the college. In 1964, educational pioneer Audrey Cohen began offering classes to students in New York City and developed a unique combination of theory and practical learning, which we call Purpose-Centered Education.
Today, graduates continue to emerge as true practitioners in this field, prepared with the knowledge and skills to make an impact and contribute as front-line leaders and decision makers. This program is a powerful education in human services that students can only get from MCNY.
