Metropolitan College of New York celebrates Dr. Laura Pires-Hester

September 13, 2021, Marquis Who’s Who, a respected publisher of biographical profiles, presented Laura Pires-Hester, PhD, with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. Dr. Pires-Hester has contributed decades of service to her professional positions and volunteer networks, and she has been celebrated for her achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in a number of fields.

Dr. Laura Pires-Hester has a long history with Metropolitan College of New York, serving from 1966-1982. She first joined the College, then known as the Women’s Talent Corps, as the Director of Field Placements, and she eventually became the College’s first Vice President. She was instrumental in developing community partnerships and field placements for students, and in creating the College for Human Services (now, MCNY).

With great pride, we share that only 5% of Marquis Who’s Who listees receive awards for lifetime achievement, making Dr. Pires-Hester part of a small community of truly amazing people.

MCNY President Joanne Passaro noted, “Dr. Pires-Hester continues to inspire all of us with her deep commitment, her humility, and her focus on excellence in all she does. It is an honor to know her, and the MCNY community is deeply grateful for her continued support of the college and our students.”

Dr. Pires-Hester played an important role in the earliest days of the Women’s Talent Corps and its transition to a degree-granting college that is now MCNY. As we celebrate this award, we thank Dr. Laura Pires-Hester for her contributions to the MCNY Community.
