On Thursday, June 29, 2023, the Supreme Court decided to cast aside decades of established law and limit the ability of colleges and universities to create diverse and inclusive learning environments on their campuses. Metropolitan College of New York (MCNY) regrets this decision and the devaluing of equity in higher education. MCNY remains committed to Purpose-Centered Education as an educational pathway for eliminating systemic barriers in education, workplaces, and our communities. We will continue to build on the vision of our founder, Audrey Cohen, to ensure that the power of Purpose-Centered Education to drive social change remains accessible to all students. The MCNY community stands together, and we stand behind the wisdom in Justice Sonia Sotomayor’s dissent: “Ignoring race will not equalize a society that is racially unequal.”
