With great pride, Metropolitan College of New York (MCNY) announces that our President, Dr. Charles J. Gibbs, received the prestigious 2024 President’s Lifetime Achievement Award at the “Heroes Who Serve” Gala on October 12th, 2024. This distinguished award is sponsored by the Worldwide Association of Small Churches, an interdenominational nonprofit organization with over 3,600 member churches worldwide, including in Central and South America, India, Africa, and the United States.

The Worldwide Association of Small Churches is dedicated to the empowerment and education of small places of worship of every denomination and is committed to fostering a greater understanding of religious beliefs and practices across denominational borders.

More about President Gibbs
Charles J. Gibbs, Ed.D., became the first African American and 7th President of MCNY on July 1, 2024. With a distinguished 25-year career in higher education, Dr. Gibbs has led numerous institutions to growth and success. Prior to joining MCNY, he served as CEO of 100 Black Men of America, the nation’s largest African American male mentoring organization. Dr. Gibbs also served as President of the Propel Center HBCU Consortium, where he expanded opportunities for HBCU students in health, social justice, arts, agriculture, and technology.

Having held key leadership positions at Howard University, Clark Atlanta University and Miles College, Dr. Gibbs has made significant strides in policy development, accreditation, fundraising, enrollment, and community engagement, all while maintaining a steadfast commitment to student success. A triple alumnus of Howard University, Dr. Gibbs is a visionary leader dedicated to transforming education and inspiring future generations.

We are honored to celebrate Dr. Gibbs’ achievements and his dedication to education and community service. This recognition is a testament to his impact and leadership, not only at MCNY but also across the broader educational and social justice landscape.
