We hate to name drop…BUT…
When people talk about business leaders & game changers in the music industry, the name of MCNY School for Business professor and 2010 MBA Media Management alumnus, Walter Tucker, is usually mentioned. And, that’s why Black Enterprise Magazine, the largest business platform for Black entrepreneurs & business leaders in the country has selected Walter ‘Mr. Music’ Tucker as their 2nd inductee for the “2017 Modern Man Of Distinction 100” for his work with LiveThe.Biz.
Born in Portsmouth, Virginia & now living in New York City, Walter is currently the New York Client Relations Manager for Kobalt Music Group (the biggest independent music publishing company in the world) where he handles prominent clients such as Jadakiss, Jazmine Sullivan, India Arie, Kirk Franklin, Benji Pasek & Justin Paul (Composers Of La La Land), Slick Rick, Travis Greene & more.
For the past seven years, Walter has taught several undergraduate & graduate courses at MCNY making him one of the youngest adjunct professors on campus. You may also remember him as one MCNY’s successful alumni featured in our “The Difference” ad campaign.
Throughout his career, Walter has worked & partnered with various entertainment brands in New York, Los Angeles, Nashville, London, & Switzerland including: Sirius XM, ASCAP, Sony Music Group, Warner Music Group, ESPN, BMG Rights, Nielsen Music & The Harry Fox Agency. He has handled projects involving the music publishing rights for some of the world’s top artists/songwriters: Michael Jackson, Quincy Jones, Beyonce, Justin Timberlake, Daft Punk, Adele, Pink, Will.I.Am, Mumford & Sons & many more.
In 2016, Walter founded his organization LiveThe.Biz which is a New York-based music industry platform designed to help educate and connect independent artists, music enthusiasts, and college students with the biggest entertainment brands in the world. They empower budding music executives and artists through business education panels, artist showcases, on-demand video courses, and networking events! Thus far in 2017, they’ve produced several sold-out events at The Chord Club (powered by Billboard) and Microsoft. Their past panelists hail from over 30 music companies including Atlantic Records, BET, MTV, Roc Nation, Sony Music, VH1, Warner Brothers, and more! They’re gearing up to end the year strong with a few more events in New York and are planning to expand to Los Angeles in 2018.
