- Testing Updates
GET TESTED for COVID-19. If you have attended any events where social distancing was not possible, make sure you get a swab test after five days. FREE COVID-19 testing is here for ALL New York City residents. Find over 200 locations near you at www.nyc.gov/covidtest.

Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA)-This Disaster Distress Helpline provides 24/7, 365-day-a-year crisis counseling, and support to people experiencing emotional distress related to COVID-19 and emergencies. Call 1-800-985-5990 or text TalkWithUs to 66746 to connect with a trained crisis counselor. TTY 1-800-846-8517.
- Unemployment Benefits
Be patient–but persistent! Apply online at labor.ny.gov/unemploymentassistance.shtm. Applying for unemployment means money in your pocket if you’re out of work–and even if you are a freelance or gig-economy worker (i.e., earn 1099 income) you could qualify.
The Federal CARES Act is supplementing all states’ unemployment benefits, increasing checks by $600 per WEEK. And this week, the State extended benefits by 13 weeks–from 26 to 39 weeks in total.

One week of free groceries are available to all New Yorkers in five boroughs at the Neighborhood Opportunity Network (NeON) Nutrition Kitchens, in partnership with the Food Bank of NYC and the NYC Young Men’s Initiative (YMI)
The NYC Mayor’s Office is expanding free meals to EVERY New Yorker! Over 400 @NYCSchools locations offer three free meals Monday to Friday. Kids pick up 7:30 am—11:30 am. NYC Veterans – If you are a veteran living in New York, or New Jersey, you can get trauma counseling and crisis intervention support. Veterans can also access mental health support by calling the Veterans Crisis Line: 800-273-8255.
- Community Housing Organizations and Temporary Covid19 Hotel Stays
NYC Health + Hospitals (H+H) is making hotel rooms available for New Yorkers who may need to self-isolate because they have COVID-19 or COVID-19 like symptoms, but their homes do not allow for them to stay six feet away from others, or they live with someone who is vulnerable.
Homeless Shelters -The Department of Homeless Services (DHS) shelter system provides temporary, emergency shelter. If you are a homeless family, a single pregnant woman, or a single adult, you can apply to enter the shelter system. You can also find links to information on Homeless Drop-In Centers and Eviction Prevention and HomeBase.
Bronxworks –Free eviction-prevention resources designed to help low-income renters in emergency situations.
Coalition for the Homeless –Provides links to resources for emergency shelter, permanent housing, eviction prevention, disability rights, domestic violence, and food security information.
CAMBA –Provides tenant support services, case management, budget counseling and advocacy, including referrals to Public Assistance, legal, and other supportive services to help people remain housed and stable without entering the shelter system.
Metropolitan Council on Housing -MET Council on Housing is a tenants’ rights organization serving NYC households that are rent-stabilized or regulated and those vulnerable to displacement.
Community Service Society –CSS assists households facing housing emergencies and helps New Yorkers access publicly-subsidized housing, including a comprehensive guide on public benefit and housing programs during the COVID-19 emergency.
The Fortune Society –Offering housing support to formerly incarcerated people, and a discharge and reentry planning hotline accessible for currently and formerly incarcerated people. Call 347-510-3436.
The Door –The Door is a drop-in center serving New York City’s runaway and homeless youth with a variety of services, including meals, shelter referrals, recreation, and more.
The Ali Forney Center –Provides LGBTQ young people housing and a continuum of supportive services to help them thrive and prepare them for independent living.
- WiFi and Mobile Service Resources
NYC Mayor announced a $5 million City investment to provide free internet-enabled tablets for 10,000 senior NYCHA residents to help them remain connected with their loved ones, in partnership with T-Mobile and Older Adults Technology Services. Eligible seniors (62 and older, living alone or with another senior only) can email firstname.lastname@example.org or call (929) 505-6208 and (929) 237-3069 (M-F 9:30 am to 4:30 pm) to register. -Spectrum is offering free wifi to students for 60 days call 1-844-488-8395.
-Charter has extended its offer of Spectrum Internet up to 100 Mbps for free, including in-home Wi-Fi, for 60 days for any new.
-Comcast is offering free wifi for 60 days to new, low-income families as well as opening their Xfinity WiFi hotspots to everyone for free.
-Altice/Optimum and Suddenlink are offering free internet connectivity for 60 days. Optimum is also offering access though their special WiFi hotspots. Call the numbers below for further information on getting internet at your home 866-200-9522 to enroll in Optimum or 888-633-0030 to enroll in Suddenlink depending on what is available in your location.
-AT&T is also offering public access to Wi-Fi Hotspots for free. They’re are also offering internet access for qualifying limited income households at $10 a month through Access from AT&T program. More information HERE.
