Advocate, educator, and wellness champion Dr. Marcella Pizzo is leading with purpose. Empowering through education, research, and service, Dr. Pizzo creates safe, reflective spaces that challenge social inequities in her clinical work.

More About Dr. Marcella Pizzo
Dr. Marcella Pizzo earned her Ph.D. at Adelphi University’s School of Social Work. As an intersectional feminist scholar, her research employs critical feminist theories to explore the complex interplay of social identities, organizational power, leadership, and organizational policy. Her future research trajectory centers on exploring intersectionality and leadership within human service organizations. Deeply impacted by her professional experience as a former New York City teacher, Dr. Pizzo’s research trajectory also includes exploring project-based group work within social work education.

Dr.Pizzo has taught across undergraduate and graduate curricula, including Research and Organizational Context for Professional Practice. She has been impacted by the work of bell hooks, whose writing shaped her pedagogical lens. Dr. Pizzo believes that, as educators, we are responsible for creating safe spaces for our students to enhance awareness of social inequities through activities that foster self-reflection and critical thinking. Guided by the core values of social work, Dr.Pizzo is actively engaged in service. She is on the board of directors of the New York State Social Work Education Association (NYSSWEA), where she co-leads the Policy and Education committee. In alignment with her commitment to promoting social justice, she is also a member of the local National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), where she participates in community-building events throughout the year.

Dr. Pizzo has founded a behavioral health practice centered around women’s wellness. She has been trained and certified in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) through the Beck Institute and employs CBT and other evidence-based practices in her clinical work.
