The Metropolitan College of New York (MCNY) community is proud to share the inspiring story of Mrs. Renee Gibbs, our First Lady, as we celebrate the launch of her children’s book, “Our Family Miracle: Mommy’s Transplant.”
This powerful story is told through the eyes of her two sons, offering a fresh and heartfelt perspective on their family’s journey through a life-changing medical experience. By sharing this story from a child’s point of view, Mrs. Gibbs introduces young readers to the concept of organ transplantation in a way that is accessible, relatable, and deeply moving.
About Mrs. Renee Gibbs
Mrs. Gibbs’ personal story is one of courage and resilience. As a double lung and heart transplant recipient, she faced one of the most difficult challenges of her life, but she did not face it alone. Her husband, Dr. Charles Gibbs and sons were by her side, witnessing every step of her journey. Their experience inspired Mrs. Gibbs to create a story that could offer support, understanding, and encouragement to children experiencing the uncertainty of having a parent with serious health challenges.

Beyond her role as an author, Mrs. Gibbs is also the Co-Founder, President & CEO of The Heartbeat Foundation, Inc., a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting pre- and post-transplant patients with love and care. Her work with The Heartbeat Foundation began after she realized how many patients go through the transplant process without support. Using her own resources, she started helping patients with essential needs and personal care services. Her passion to help others led to the creation of The Heartbeat Foundation, which provides vital services to transplant patients and their families.
