Dear MCNY Community,
It is with great sadness that I share the arrangements for our colleague, professor, mentor, and friend, Dr. Patrick Ianniello. His passing is a profound loss for our community. I know he would cherish the way we are leaning on one another for strength and comfort. Please keep Dr. Ianniello’s family—that he affectionately described as “the center of his world”—in your hearts and thoughts.
With sympathy,
Dr. Charles J. Gibbs
President

Remembering Dr. Patrick Ianniello
Dr. Patrick Ianniello devoted his career to Metropolitan College of New York, shaping lives through his teaching, mentoring, and example. He guided students to connect their studies with meaningful service, always showing them that education has the power to transform both individuals and communities. His presence was steady and thoughtful, his teaching rigorous but deeply supportive.
As the leader of the Master of Science in Education program since 2004, Dr. Ianniello carried out his work with grace and professionalism, always striving for excellence. With great care and attention to detail, he secured accreditation from the Association for Advancing Quality in Educator Preparation (AAQEP). He also took deep pride in the new opportunities that came with the MCNY NSF Robert Noyce Teaching Fellowship grant and the development of the MSED in Mathematics, Grades 7–12 degree.
The countless alumni who graduated under his leadership thought of him as a mentor, a friend, and at times a father figure. He gave thoughtful advice, nurtured every step of their educational journey, and celebrated each milestone as if it were his own.
Those who worked alongside him will remember his humor, shared at just the right moments. The laughter he sparked brought people together, eased challenges, and offered perspective. Those moments made us better.
What stands out most is how he treated everyone with warmth, kindness, professionalism, and intention. Dr. Ianniello approached colleagues, students, and faculty alike with the same respect. His legacy will live on in the graduates who serve their communities, in the colleagues he uplifted, and in the values he modeled every day. As we gather to honor him, let us hold close the lessons he gave us: to lead with kindness, to teach with purpose, and to build a community grounded in care.
