WHAT:            Metropolitan College of New York (MCNY) invites all of our neighbors to take advantage of a convenient local drop off point to participate in the 10th Annual MCNY Coat Drive benefitting NY Cares. Lightly used coats can be dropped off in donation bins in MCNY’s lobby at 431 Canal Street off Varick Street until December 18.

WHY:              MCNY’s Purpose-Centered Education model extends well beyond the classroom and traditional learning. The college regularly provides opportunities to translate its focus on social justice into action in the real world. Neighbors are invited to take advantage of this convenient local drop off point to join our staff, students and alumni in helping the most vulnerable in our city.

“MCNY has held a winter coat drive for the past 10 years.   A gift in season is a double favor to the needy.  With the current economy putting a strain on so many, we are proud to help support those in need right in our own community by working with New York Cares.  I urge everyone to look inside their hearts and their closets.  If you aren’t going to wear it, give it to someone who will benefit from its warmth,” said Dona Sosa, Dean of Students, Metropolitan College of New York.

Vinton Thompson, President, Metropolitan College of New York states, “With many New Yorkers forced to make the tough decision between a hot meal and a warm coat for the winter, the MCNY community comes together to support the community where we live and learn.  A central element of our education model is the Constructive Action which combines learning with action. We are taking this time to ask our students, staff and neighbors to take action and donate whatever they can for others during this season of giving.”
