New York, NY – July 9, 2012 – Metropolitan College of New York’s School of Management’s Master of Public Administration presents the next Urban Dialogue, “Important Issues In Men’s Health”, Tuesday, July 10, 2012 at 6 pm.

Guest speaker Dr. Menachem Shemtov, Associate Professor of Clinical Urology and Associate Residency Director at New York Presbyterian Hospital/Cornell University-Weill Medical College will be featured.

Fresh off the national observance of “Men’s Health Week,” observed June 11-17, Dr. Shemtov will share his insight on “Important Issues in Men’s Health” with an overview of:

-Male anatomy and physiology;

-Benign diseases of the prostate; and

-Prostate cancer screening and related controversies.

Humphrey Crookendale, Dean of the School of Management stated, “The School of Management at Metropolitan College of New York continues to use the forum of “Urban Dialogues” as a platform to inform its students about current and relevant social/political issues affecting their families, agencies, and communities as a whole. Consistent with this mission, we are honored to have Dr. Shemtov share his expertise with us and address critical issues affecting men’s health. It is my hope that, at the end of this presentation, students will have sharpened their points-of-view regarding how social policy is defined and articulated.”

According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), statistics last recorded in 2008 showed that black men are still the highest risk group even though the numbers of diagnosed cases have been on the decline since 2000.

Prostate Cancer Awareness Month is in September.    However, NOW is the time to be proactive and screen for this and other health issues.  Check out this CDC pamphlet for information on screening yourself or a loved one — http://www.cdc.gov/cancer/prostate/pdf/prostate_fs.pdf.
