New York, NY July 1, 2014 – Today, Metropolitan College of New York (MCNY) announced the appointment of Daniel Katz, Ph.D. as Vice President for Academic Affairs and Chief Academic Officer, effective July 7, 2014. Dr. Katz joins MCNY from National Labor College in Silver Spring, Maryland, where he served as Provost and Dean from 2012 to 2014.
“It is with great honor that we welcome Dr. Katz to the MCNY community,” said Vinton Thomas, President of MCNY. “Dr. Katz has made significant contributions to higher education throughout his career so we are excited to have him on board.”
In his role as Vice President for Academic Affairs and Chief Academic Officer, Dr. Katz will oversee The Audrey Cohen School for Human Services and Education, School for Business, School for Public Affairs and Administration, the College Library and Academic Support Services.
From 2004 to 2012, Dr. Katz served as a faculty member at SUNY Empire State College in New York City and in several different administrative roles there, including Chair of the Master of Arts program in Policy Studies. Prior to that, he had administrative appointments at Hunter College and Rutgers University and held appointments as Professor of History at National Labor College and the University of Maryland.
Dr. Katz is a scholar of labor history and includes among his publications two books and several articles. He has a Ph.D. in history from Rutgers and two degrees from the University of Wisconsin; an M.A. in History and a B.A. in History and Political Science.
