Dear Members of the MCNY Family,
Our connections with each other are what make the MCNY community so powerful—the combined strength of faculty, staff, students, alumni and friends who share the dreams and hopes of those who see MCNY as their best route to a better life.
As you know, MCNY was founded in 1964 by Audrey Cohen to provide new educational and career pathways for adult students. We will never step back from this mission, and we continue to realize the commitment of our founder: our curriculum remains Purpose-Centered, and our mission to expand social justice in our communities is unchanged.
MCNY also continues to evolve as the landscape of New York changes. We are excited to share with you some of the program changes and additions that will better serve adult students and provide even greater opportunities for personal, academic and professional growth.
In light of post-pandemic realities, which include increased demand for flexibility coupled with an expanding array of powerful instructional technologies, we are creating new online programs and modifying existing MCNY programs.
Our undergraduate Purpose-Centered Education model has been re-imagined to give students more scheduling options. We are revising and streamlining graduate programs to better align them with emerging needs. Faculty are also developing new online programs and certifications in fields related to business, technology, human services and public health; we expect these to launch in 2024 and 2025.
These innovations will strengthen student success and enhance the appeal of MCNY’s programs to adult students and working professionals. They will expand our student population and give MCNY a larger online footprint. We will continue to grow our campus in the Bronx, and we will look to sell a portion of our Manhattan campus. This decision is good for our community; it will reduce facility costs and make more funds available to support students and the expansion of innovative educational programming.
As the semester begins, all of you will be part of the continuing fulfillment of the goals and dreams of our students. That’s what MCNY was founded to do, and with great pride, that is what we will continue to do.
The best is yet to come!
With warm regards,
Joanne Passaro
