Metropolitan College of New York (MCNY) announces the promotion of Dr. Eric Fuchs to the esteemed rank of Full Professor in the Audrey Cohen School for Human Services & Education.

Dr. Fuchs has been a dedicated faculty member since 2010, specializing in Urban Education, focusing on Mathematics, Science, and Technology. His extensive background includes a Ph.D. in Urban Education from the CUNY Graduate Center and numerous professional accomplishments in both academia and industry.

Dr. Fuchs’ contributions to our institution are remarkable. He has conducted significant research, particularly in the use of virtual manipulatives to teach pre-algebra and algebra concepts to community college students. His work has been widely recognized, with numerous publications and presentations at prestigious conferences. Dr. Fuchs has also played a pivotal role in curriculum development and has been instrumental in preparing our students for New York State certification exams.

More about Dr. Eric Fuchs
Ph.D. in Urban Education (Math, Science and Technology), CUNY Graduate Center in New York; M.Phil., CUNY Graduate Center in New York; M.Eng. (Electrical), McGill University in Montreal, Canada.

Eric Fuchs is a full-time professor in the Master of Science in Education (MSED) program. For the last 14 years he has been teaching current and future educators to infuse technology in their math classes. He also teaches undergraduate courses in math and statistics. In his prior work, Dr. Fuchs taught basic and college-level math courses at Bronx and LaGuardia community colleges as well as Hunter and Queens colleges.

Dr. Fuchs believes that all students can master mathematics. In his doctoral research, he examined the role of basic math classes in improving graduation rates from community colleges; his proposed solutions were later adopted in the CUNY system.

Dr. Fuchs has published numerous articles on math topics at all levels and presented his research at professional conferences. His current research is in analyzing prior exam data to help graduate students pass the New York State teacher certification exams.

A passionate lifelong learner, Dr. Fuchs is fluent in several languages and sees a strong parallel between learning math and learning to speak another language.
