New York, NY/October 7, 2015 — On October 30, 2015, Metropolitan College of New York (MCNY) will host a Leadership Breakfast as part of YOUniversity Bound’s Intellectual Entrepreneurship: The Business of Schools Conference at the Huntington Hilton in Melville, New York.
The conference will bring together a community of experts from corporate, K-12 and higher education for the purpose of improving The Business of Schools. Panelists will discuss a range of issues impacting education today and into the future. As part of this influential conference, Metropolitan College of New York will host a leadership breakfast recognizing individuals who have contributed significantly to the field of education in the greater New York City area. Honorees will include:
- Dr. Louis Camilien, Chief of Gynecology and Vice Chairman of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at New York Methodist Hospital. He is also a Clinical Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology for Weill Cornell Medical College.
- Jean Duchatellier, President of The 1906 Project, Inc., a community based organization which awards four year scholarships to deserving students as well as partners/collaborates with other organizations that are also committed to advancing development programs for youth and adults in Queens, NY
- Van Dirk Fisher, Founder & Artistic Director of the Riant Theatre and Strawberry One-Act Festival. The Riant Theatre has a strong youth mentoring program, which provides internships for teenagers interested in the arts.
The breakfast will raise awareness and funds for The Dr. Melvin Isadore Douglass Scholarship for Urban Education. The scholarship provides financial assistance to students going into MCNY’s Masters of Science in Education is a one-year intensive program that certifies teachers for positions in New York City schools in grades K-6 in both childhood and special education. It is the first at MCNY dedicated to students in the Masters of Science in Education program, and the first fund established by an African American man at the College.
