About Humphrey Crookendale, J.D.
For more than 40 years, Mr. Humphrey A. Crookendale has served in a number of important academic leadership roles at Metropolitan College of New York (MCNY), including associate dean and acting dean of the Audrey Cohen School for Human Services and Education (ACSHSE). In addition, he served as the dean of the college’s School of Management and its School for Public Affairs and Administration. He helped found the college’s first graduate program, in public administration. He currently serves as Vice President for Academic Affairs, overseeing all of the college’s academic programs.

Vice President Crookendale was a key architect of the college’s Master of Science in Administration degree program, the college’s first graduate program. It was Vice President Crookendale’s vision also to develop a curriculum for a Master of Public Administration (MPA) degree in Emergency and Disaster Management, one of few such programs in the United States.

In addition to leading the College’s academic affairs division, Vice President Crookendale also teaches in the MPA program. His areas of interest in teaching are public policy and policy analysis.

Vice President Crookendale is very interested in how the confluence of local, state and federal politics influences the policy process and, ultimately, policy itself.

He also created and leads the college’s long-running “Urban Dialogues” program, which provides a forum where scholars, legislators, policymakers, students, and citizens can exchange ideas and discuss issues and trends affecting New York City and other urban centers across the nation.

Vice President Crookendale holds a B.A. from Queens College of the City University of New York in Political Science and Communications. He also earned a J.D. from Howard University’s School of Law.

He is on the list of specialists for the Fulbright program.

Vice President Crookendale has served on the boards of a number of prominent organizations and institutions, including ICL (Institute for Community Living) and the Jamaica YMCA. He also sat on the board of trustees of Eastern Nazarene College in Quincy, Massachusetts.

Vice President Crookendale is a frequent guest speaker at government, church, and community events.

In addition to his teaching and administrative work at MCNY, Vice President Crookendale has taught at Pace University for 30 years. He teaches criminology and social policy in the Dyson School. He was recently recognized and applauded for his long and distinguished service to Pace’s community. President Koslov awarded him the university’s Certificate of Merit and Distinction in honor of his service.

Vice President Crookendale is a long-time resident of and advocate for Brooklyn and has lived in Bedford-Stuyvesant for the past 35 years. He is married, with two children, Brandeis and Simeon. Brandeis is a tenured teacher for the New York City Board of Education and Simeon recently earned his master’s degree in emergency management from Pace University.
