AAQEP Association for Advancing Quality in Educator PreparationThis 46-credit program is designed for prospective teachers who seek teaching certification to be eligible to work with all elementary school students in general, inclusion, or special education classroom settings. Upon passing the required state certification examinations,  graduates are eligible for both initial New York State certification in Childhood Education Grades 1-6 to teach in general education, and certification in Students with Disabilities Grades 1-6  to also teach students with disabilities.

Following our experientially-based Purpose-Centered Education model, students learn to become effective teachers by applying the coursework while completing a 10-month residency in urban public schools. After completing all of the program degree requirements, graduates are institutionally recommended to the New York State Education Department for both Initial and Professional certifications in Childhood Education Grades 1-6 (Program Code: 34552), and Students with Disabilities Grades 1-6 (Program Code: 34552).

Metropolitan College of New York’s Master of Science in Education program meets New York State’s educational requirements for licensure.

Licensure for Students Outside of New York

Other than New York state, Metropolitan College of New York only enrolls prospective students who reside in the state of New Jersey.
